Braelon Allen is in his third season as Breece Hall's backup, and he has never carried the ball more than 12 times in a game. That changes Sunday.
The Jets ruled out Hall (quadriceps) for their game in Chicago, along with receiver Adonai Mitchell (finger), tight end Mason Taylor (thumb) and left guard Dylan Parham (knee). None of the four practiced this week. Hall had missed only two games in the previous three seasons.
"It's exciting to know there's going to be a little more on my plate," said Allen, who has 19 carries for 61 yards and a touchdown so far. "I've been ready for this." Isaiah Davis, a third-year back who hasn't played an offensive snap yet, should get some work too.
The run game isn't running
The ground game was supposed to be what this offense leans on. It has 125 rushing yards over the last two games, both losses, including 31-24 in Detroit last week.
Offensive coordinator Frank Reich isn't changing the message. "We're not going to get emotionally hijacked by results," he said. "The best teams and the best players, what we do is we focus on the process."
Who fills in
Left guard: Jordan Meredith, acquired from the Raiders in the preseason, has 20 career starts. He missed a blitz pickup that led to a sack-fumble at the end of the Detroit game.
Receiver: Isaiah Williams starts again for Mitchell, and Sterling Shepard is expected to be called up from the practice squad to play the No. 3 role. Rookie Omar Cooper Jr., Tim Patrick and Arian Smith are all on injured reserve.
Tight end: The deepest spot on the roster. Rookie Kenyon Sadiq caught seven passes for 105 yards and a touchdown in Detroit.
The Bears are 2-1. Kickoff at Soldier Field is 1 p.m. ET Sunday on FOX, and you can watch it live on TVRivo.
