Mariota Again in London, but Washington Sees Jayden Daniels Back Against the Giants

Jayden Daniels won't play in London. Washington ruled its quarterback out of Sunday's game against the Colts at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, his second straight absence with a dislocated left elbow, and Marcus Mariota will start again.

The news that came with it was better. The Commanders think Daniels is close, possibly back for Week 5 against the Giants.

"That's a huge positive step for us and for him," coach Dan Quinn said. "Typical of him, he was more ready [to play this week] than you expect."

A brace on the non-throwing arm

Daniels was limited all week, practicing in a brace that keeps the elbow slightly bent. He did individual drills, footwork and throwing, and said taking snaps and handing off didn't bother him. He also said he isn't worried about hurting it again, because that's what the brace is for. Quinn wants to see him get through a full practice next week before deciding.

There's reason to be careful. Daniels dislocated the same elbow in Week 9 last season, missed four games, hurt it again when he came back, and was shut down for the year. This time it happened on the last play of the first half in Week 2 at Dallas, when his foot was stepped on and he fell back onto the arm.

Mariota's turn

Mariota was sharp last week, going 19 of 31 for 183 yards and three touchdowns in a 33-31 win over Seattle. It was a better result than last season, when he went 2-6 as Daniels' replacement.

Washington also gets linebacker Frankie Luvu (groin) and tight end Chig Okonkwo (hamstring) back after two missed games each. Luvu's return is timely: backup linebacker Leo Chenal fractured his neck and is out for the season, and Jordan Magee is on injured reserve.

Kickoff is 9:30 a.m. ET Sunday on NFL Network. You can watch it live on TVRivo.
