One Day After Trading for Him, the Hornets Are Waiving Rob Dillingham
Charlotte's trade was about Buddy Hield's contract and a $9.6 million trade exception. The 2024 No. 8 pick is headed for waivers.

Over the weekend it looked like Rob Dillingham was getting a fresh start in Charlotte. Instead, the Hornets are waiving the 21-year-old guard one day after getting him from Chicago, ESPN's Shams Charania reported Monday.
The trade was about money, not Dillingham. Charlotte sent Buddy Hield and cash to the Bulls, got Hield's multiyear contract off its books and created a $9.6 million trade exception. Dillingham didn't fit into those plans.
It's a quick fall for a player Minnesota traded two future first-round picks to move up and draft at No. 8 in 2024. The Kentucky point guard never averaged more than 15 minutes a game under Chris Finch before the Wolves traded him to Chicago midway through last season.
He played better with the Bulls, averaging 9.6 points and 2.8 assists on 42.8% shooting in 30 games.
Now he's looking for his third team in two years.
