The Clippers' owner and their top basketball executive are both suspended, so the people running the team for now are Trent Redden and Mark Hughes.
Redden, the general manager, becomes interim president of basketball operations while Lawrence Frank serves a six-month suspension. Hughes, the assistant GM, takes over general manager duties. John Gibson, the team's CEO and interim governor during Steve Ballmer's one-year suspension, announced the changes in a video to fans.
Both have been with the team since 2017. Redden came from a long run in Cleveland and was promoted to GM in 2023. Hughes was an NBA assistant coach for several years after his playing career.
The suspensions came out of a yearlong investigation by the law firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz into whether the Clippers got around the salary cap. The NBA also fined the team $30 million and took five first-round picks. Ballmer has said the team still disagrees with some findings but has paid the fine and accepted the penalties.
