Anthony Davis Will Decide on Washington After the Season
Davis can sign for up to four years and $275 million. He wants to play a season in Washington first.

Anthony Davis hasn't played a game for the Wizards yet, and he isn't committing to more than one season. At media day Monday, the 10-time All-Star said he'll talk about an extension only after this season ends.
"We're going to go through the season and try to do what I do at a high level," Davis said. "And then when it's over, sit down and have those conversations again with front office."
That's a longer wait than expected. Last month ESPN reported that both sides had agreed to hold off until the season started, giving them about 20 games to see how it went. Davis has been eligible since early August to sign for up to four years and $275 million. He holds a $62 million player option for next season, the last year of the deal he signed with the Lakers.
Washington got him in a February trade weeks after landing Trae Young, then took AJ Dybantsa No. 1 in the draft. Davis missed the rest of last season with a hand injury. Young has since signed for four years and $212 million, and Washington added Khris Middleton and Deandre Ayton.
Davis sounds interested in the project. He says his job is helping young players like Dybantsa, Alex Sarr and Tre Johnson, and he wants to change how the league sees the Wizards, a team that hasn't made the playoffs since 2021 and has won fewer than 20 games in each of the last three seasons.
"Doing what they're doing shows that we're trying to win," Davis said. Whether that's enough to keep him is the question for next summer.
