Rosas Jr. Wins His Sixth Straight, but His Thoughts Were With Barcelos

Raul Rosas Jr. had just won the biggest fight of his career, and the first thing he asked the crowd in Las Vegas was to pray for the man he beat.

Man, he's a warrior. It takes two to tango.

Rosas was down on all three scorecards going into the fifth round of Saturday's UFC Fight Night main event. He came out swinging, got Raoni Barcelos into a clinch against the fence and slammed him to the mat. Barcelos' head appeared to hit either the canvas or the cage, and referee Herb Dean stopped it at 1:38 when it was clear Barcelos wasn't responding.

Barcelos stayed down until he was carried out on a stretcher. He was taken to a Level 1 trauma center for a CT scan, and the UFC said he was stable, alert and responsive with full movement. His coach, Davi Ramos, posted late Saturday that everything was fine and everyone could stay calm.

The result gives Rosas (13-1) six wins in a row. He signed with the UFC at 17 in 2022, the youngest fighter the promotion had ever signed, and Barcelos (22-6) was his toughest test. At 39, Barcelos is 17 years older, the widest age gap in the history of UFC main events.
