The PWHL's First All-Star Game Will Be 3-on-3, With a Team Just for Rookies

The Professional Women's Hockey League is getting an All-Star Game, and it won't look like the usual one. The first PWHL All-Star event, set for March 7, 2027, at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, is a 3-on-3 tournament between four teams.

Players will be split into PWHL Canada, PWHL USA, PWHL International and PWHL Rookies. The rookie team is open to anyone in her first PWHL season, whatever her age. Each roster has six forwards, three defenders and one goalie. After a round robin, a semifinal decides who plays the top team in the final.

Fans, players and media will vote on the rosters, and the league's hockey operations staff will pick the reserves.

Toronto is a deliberate choice. The league's first regular-season game, in 2024, was Toronto against New York. Jayna Hefford, who runs hockey operations, said the format should be fast and intense and give both the stars and the newcomers a stage.
