The 28-year-old had a career year in Winnipeg and Buffalo last season but was scratched late in the playoffs.

Isaiah George thought he had a real shot at a full-time job on the Islanders' blue line this fall. Instead, New York sent him and Kashawn Aitcheson to the AHL and signed veteran Logan Stanley to a one-year deal.
Stanley, 28, is a big left-shot defenseman who joined camp late. The Jets took him 18th overall in 2016 and traded him to Buffalo at last season's deadline. He had his best year: seven goals and 26 points, both career highs, finishing a two-year, $2.5 million contract. The playoffs were rougher. In eight games he had 19 penalty minutes and was a minus-2, and he was scratched for the last four games of Buffalo's second-round loss to Montreal.
George, 22, played four NHL games last season and 33 the year before. He and Aitcheson go to the Islanders' AHL affiliate in Hamilton.
It's a new start for the Islanders, who have missed the playoffs two years running and hired Peter DeBoer as coach. They open Wednesday in Toronto. Stanley, who's from Kitchener, Ontario, played for Canada at the 2016 world juniors.
